Michael A. Goodwin is a lifelong educator with over 26 years of experience in the field teaching middle school on up through college, instructing in language arts, social studies, science, and mathematics. As a neurodivergent learner himself (and a parent of a neurodivergent learner), he approaches all students with special needs and/or learning differences with warmth, empathy, and above all patience. Michael holds a BA in English and MA in Professional Writing from Kennesaw State University, where he also worked for 18 years. He has also taught at Mill Springs Academy and the now-closed Bright Path Academy. Outside of school, Michael is an avid reader, writer, and prolifically-published game designer who enjoys travel, spending time with his menagerie of cats and reptiles and frogs, gaming with friends, and collaborating with his fellow teacher and wife Julie. He is shamelessly and proudly nerdy and loves to give students a safe space in which to find their own voice and explore their special interests. Ultimately, he believes that all students can grow to become more productive, effective, and curious if they are properly nurtured and supported by teachers who believe in their potential and capacity for excellence.
Nina King’s love for students with learning differences began over twenty-two years ago when she began teaching at an independent school geared toward students with ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia, etc. Since then, Ms. King has served as a Head of School, principal, teacher, and camp director at The Howard School, Cottage School, Cumberland Academy of Georgia, and Mill Springs Academy. Over her career, she has spoken at events for students that learn differently with an emphasis on Autism Spectrum Disorder. Ms. King’s specialty is identifying how each student’s brain is wired and differentiating each child’s learning experience to ensure that all students become independent successful learners. In addition, Ms. King believes in building relationships with all her students so they feel comfortable in an academic and social environment.
At Oak Hollow Academy, Ms. King previously taught mathematics, science, and electives. Although she is no longer an employee, she continues to assist the program as a consultant to design curriculum, plan field experiences, and help the school gain accreditation.
